Lately I've been talking a lot to my sister-in-law about finances and it got me thinking of bills we are currently paying and if I could get the company to cut down on a few things. I'm currently in Hawaii for a few months (away from our San Diego apartment). Last month we got billed about $110 from Time Warner on cable/internet we aren't even using.
So I decided to google if the company had an option of putting our cable on hold. Lo and behold they had something called "Seasonal status," which is basically putting your cable/internet/phone on hold for a min of 2 months (max of 6 months). I know I'll probably be home by 2 months but I wanted to see if maybe they could backtrack the seasonal so I could get reimbursed for some of last month's billing. I can't believe I didn't think of this earlier. (I feel so stupid!) Unfortunately, when I called they said they couldn't backtrack and if I do the seasonal and go home earlier than expected there's no way to take the hold off. I didn't like that girl so I hung up and called again in hope of talking a nicer lady. (I always do that. Lol.)
At my next attempt, this lady was much nicer. She told me I could do the 2 month seasonal and if I do get back by August 4th, I just have to call 24 hours in advance and they'll take the code off of my cable box. (They better or I'll be pissed!) So now instead of expecting a billing of $100ish this month it should be $10! Can you believe the price difference. Now I'll always make sure to call the cable company whenever I go to Hawaii so we don't have money taken out for a service we don't use.

great idea-Bills can add up and bite you in the butt- I'm glad your cable company could help you.
Thanks! Me too. Anything to save some moolah. Haha.
Yay! We're both having great luck with cutting down costs haha.
I know right! It's really thanks to you for giving me the idea.
